We appreciate that Arc’teryx has started incorporating sustainable practices into their line, including the use of bluesign-approved fabrics. The carefully-shaped velcro wrist closures adjust easily and intuitively, and the overall cut is athletic without being excessively so, allowing some flexibility for layering in colder weather or altitudes. The pit zips are presumably an effort to add breathability to this relatively solid 3L Gore-Tex shell when compared to higher-spec, better breathing Gore-Tex Pro, and in some conditions pit zips do work very well. However, we’ve always found them to be a bit of a dead end in more extreme conditions - still, they’re there if you need them. It's not just for the mountain goersthough, the Beta LT is also perfect for a romp around your local walking trails and woodlands.

Gore-Tex build offers good all-around comfort with a noticeably softer and less crinkly feel than the past-generation Beta LT (which used Gore-Tex Pro). In recent years, many major outdoor brands have made notable progress toward creating more sustainably made products, and we’re excited to see Arc’teryx working to improve their lineup. In this case, the Beta LT’s fabrics are bluesign-approved, meaning that they’ve been certified as safe for workers, consumers, and the environment. It’s worth noting that competitors like Patagonia have also worked to certify many of their garments to the Fair Trade standard, which means they put extra money into production to ensure workers are getting compensated fairly and have access to resources like healthcare. We hope that Arc’teryx follows suit in the future, but it's nice to see sustainability is becoming a point of emphasis. Nikwax treatments will not change the look or feel of the fabric and they are all water based, environmentally safe, non-flammable and contain no nasty Fluorocarbons. Nikwax products can be used to clean, re-proof and revitalise all your outdoor technical clothing and equipment. The Beta LT is designed for all-mountain activities where you need protection and manoeuvrability with minimum weight. Virtually everyone here at Trekitt has either owned or used one and can't recommend it highly enough. This superb lightweight all-rounder is made with a very durable yet supple plain weave, N40p-X GORE-TEX Pro® 3L fabric giving high tenacity with a soft and supple feel.Feels more delicate and less bombproof than Gore-Tex-Pro-equipped hardshells, although we haven’t had any weatherproofing issues to date (and the boost in comfort is nice). To keep your outdoor clothing and equipment in tip top condition and performing to its maximum we recommend the use of Nikwax products. We have been using Nikwax products since day one (26 th March 1986) and have found them to be totally reliable, dependable and effective. Today’s Nikwax treatments contain environmentally friendly elastic water-repellent polymers that bond to fabric fibres, leaving the spaces between open and breathable. These stretchy polymers are able to stretch and move with the fabric so they stay put for longer and work better. The main talking point of this updated Beta LT is, of course, that Gore-Tex membrane. Sitting at the middle of Gore-Tex’s range of fabrics, regular Gore-Tex strikes a balance between weight, breathability and all-weather protection.

Gore-Tex Pro membranes are lighter and more breathable than the original Gore-Tex, while still providing total waterproofness and an increasein breathability. The Beta LT is designed to be your protective outer layer in wet, windy conditions. You're able to fit layers underneath in cold temperatures, but the Beta should be primarily used to shield you from the elements. StormHood leaves very little excess material along the sides the face, which isn’t often the case with helmet-compatible hoods.N = Nylon / Number = Denier / p = plain-weave / X= exceptional durability-to-weight ratio / GORE-TEX® Pro = Membrane / 3L= 3 Layer fabric We’ve complimented Arc’teryx’s StormHood on a number of occasions, and it’s the same story here. The design is extremely secure, has a nicely sized brim that keeps water from dripping down on your face or ski goggles, and fits well over either a helmet or just a hat. And as I touched on above, when cinched over a thin beanie or headband, the Beta LT’s shape leaves far less excess material along the sides of the face, which is pretty rare among helmet-compatible hoods. My only complaint is that the adjustments at the front of the hood are small and require pinching to loosen the cord, which is not a glove-friendly process. But otherwise, it’s yet another premium hood design from the brand.
