A Little Broken \"Aaaahhhhkkkk... pfffttttt... aaaaaahhhhhhk kkkkk . . . pppppppptttttt... \" No, reader, you haven't bought the Swahili edition of this book by mistake. That was the sound Ben was waiting for. Granny snoring. She was asleep. \"Aaaaaahhhhkkkkkkk... pppppfffffffttttttt... aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhkkkkkkk... \" Ben crept out of his room and made his way over to the telephone in the hall. It was one of those old style telephones that purred like a cat 47 Walliams pulls a mind-scrambler at the beginning of act three of this book. He has the titular granny die of cancer.

With increasing pressure from Mr Parker and his gang (he prefers Neighbourhood Support Group) of cranky oldies, Ben soon realises if he doesn’t find out who is the thief, the robberies may be pinned on him! Putting all the clues together with the help of his buddy Raj and an old, but new friend, Ben tries to put things right. Mystery and Wonder Ben wasn't at all sure that Raj was right about Granny. That night it was the same old story. Granny served up cabbage soup, followed by cabbage pie and for dessert it was cabbage mousse. She even found some cabbage-flavoured after-dinner chocolates'=· somewhere. After dinner, Granny and Ben sat down together on the musty sofa as they alway s did. \"Scrabble time!\" exclaimed Granny. ,:-cabbage-flavoured chocolates are not as nice as they sound, and they don't sound that nice. 39 Gangsta Granny \"Because prancing around like that is stupid,\" said Ben. Mum whimpered a little, and reached for a tissue. \"You're upsetting your mother. Now just be quiet please, Ben, there's a good boy,\" replied Dad firmly, as he turned up the volume on the 14 Updated: 29 September 2022 It is a thrill to revisit these characters in a brand new story. I hope families are going to love this comedy adventure story." — David WalliamsWalliams is a clever writer. He hides all sorts of moral lessons (which I usually hate) in his books and always with a light touch. In this book Ben loves his Granny but he thinks she's boring. She cooks disgusting-smelling cabbage soup and plays endless games of Scrabble. But... she has a biscuit tin of shiny jewels, or perhaps they are just glittery glass, only at the end do you find out. And so their joint career as jewel thieves on a mobility scooter attempting to steal the Crown Jewels begins. They are caught! But the Queen intervenes. She turns out to be quite an interesting lady who gets them off the hook!

Walliams is currently immersed in writing his next book and Mr Beetles has yet to ask him why he is selling the collection, but he was told by an associate that there is “a change of direction, change of taste”. Gangsta Granny Display Banner - Create an eye-catching classroom display to showcase your learners’ hard work with this colourful display banner.Gangsta Granny suffers from the same problems: It uses the lowest common denominators to gain as wide an audience as possible that it overshoots at those who actually prefer to think for themselves and ask questions. Case in point: Ben's parents are such unlikely caricatures of adults in their obsession with (and reduction to) ballroom dancing, it is painful. And though his grandmother's secret past as a thief might be a funny idea in itself (just not very original), her other persona of 'granny' is such a stereotype it should not have made it past the first editor. The story ‘Gangsta Granny’ follows an eleven-year-old boy, Ben, who dreads the idea of having to stay with his elderly grandmother every Friday while his parents watch a ballroom dancing show. She’s just so boring!

They're ideal to use with children aged 7 to 11 years old, and have been designed in line with the National Curriculum. This means you can trust that they’re relevant and stimulating for your little learners. Cabbagy Water stereo. Inevitably, a Strictly CD was playing. 50 Golden Greats from the Hit TV Show was emblazoned on the cover. Ben hated the CD, not least because he had heard it a million times. In fact, he had heard it so many times it was like torture. Ben's mum worked at the local nail salon, 'Gail's Nails'. Because there weren't many customers, Mum and the other lady who worked there (unsurprisingly called Gail) spent most days doing each other's nails. Buffing, cleaning, tnmmmg, moisturising, coating, sealing, polishing, filing, lacquering, extending and painting. They were doing things to each other's nails all day long (unless Flavio Flavioli was on daytime TV). That meant Mum would always come home with extremely long multi coloured plastic extensions on the end of her fingers. 15 Gangsta Granny Word Cards - Display these cards on your classroom wall to remind children of the key vocabulary used in the book.I thought that the writing was along the lines of Roald Dahl, however unlike Dahl's writing there was a moral to this story, which surprised me a little bearing in mind David Walliams' comedy! I would give a word of warning that there is quite a sad event in this book, which may be a little upsetting for more sensitive children.
