Word up: the terms ‘upper case’ and ‘lower case’ come from the way in which print shops were organised many years ago. Individual pieces of metal type were kept in large trays or boxes called cases. The case full of smaller letters, which were used most often, were kept on a lower shelf to be easier for the typesetter to reach. Once you have stamped your message, you can paint inside with an edible paint or colour in with an edible ink pen. You can even fill in with little non-pariels, coloured piping gel or royal icing! When painting, we recommend you emboss lightly, as this will allow you to paint without your brush catching the edges of the message. If you're looking to fill your message then we recommend a deeper emboss. If you’re filling your embossed messages with piping gel, non-pareils or royal icing, aim to press down firmer for a deeper embossing. Alternatively, if you plan to decorate with edible paints or brush paints, press lightly for a softer embossing, as this will allow you to decorate your messages without catching the sides, giving you a cleaner finish.
