The four rear central control buttons are unmarked because they are all programmable. As shipped, the left one is the self timer, for instance. It's great that they are programmable, but bad that you'll have to remember how you've programmed each because none of them are marked. The second point is probably the most relevant to me personally. I’ve never been a massive fan of the X100 series, not because I didn’t like the camera per se but because I never really got along with the focal length. Much of the time, I’d frame my composition, only to wish for something just a little wider. Shooting in JPEG allows for the famous Fujifilm Film Simulations to be applied in-camera. These are replicas of some of Fujifilm’s classic film outputs. It would be easy for me to suggest this to you, and not use it myself. That would not be very genuine of me, so I did use the Fujifilm X-M1 with the TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8. I also let me 13-year-old son, Jonathan, use it a little, too. This combo is very capable of producing lovely pictures straight-out-of-camera that have character and some analog-like qualities. It’s also easy to use for those who want good results without much fuss. The amount of detail captured is nowhere near what most cameras today can achieve. But the images are still lovely and a joy to edit, print, and look at. The dynamic range is sufficient for most uses and the Classic Chrome film simulation is beautiful for those everyday images of family trips, holidays, and/or street captures. 'It’s Not Just a Phase!'

Around the fixed lens is a ribbed aperture ring that goes from f/2.8 to f/16 with an automatic option. Detent resistance is excellent, so much that I’ve never inadvertently changed my aperture, and the two tabs on either side help you to grip and turn the ring. The ribbed aperture ring goes from f/2.8 to f/16. It also has an A (automatic) mode. Despite many rumours of a Fujifilm X80 or even a Fujifilm X70S (like its older sibling in the X100 range), Fujifilm are staying tough and say no further camera in this range will be released. As with all modern digital cameras, it gets softer at high ISOs, but not that much noisier. This is because noise reduction smudges-over the details as it does the same to noise. Sharp edges stay sharp, while finer textures get smoothed-over as ISO increases.

Fuji’s workhorse 16.3 megapixel X Trans CMOS II sensor combines with a brand new, fixed 18.5mm F/2.8 Fujinon lens (28mm equivalent in full-frame 35mm format). This Super EBC (Fuji’s coating tech) glass uses seven elements in five groups with two aspherical elements to form a lens that’s clinically sharp, completely resistant to optical aberrations, and free of distortion in all but the most outrageous shooting styles.

The first time I had it I paid just under €400, and sold on for about €350. The second time around - in 2022/3 I had to pay €500 to buy, and sold for €600+ including the WCL-X70, wide converter which unlike the x100 ones cost me €30! It's pretty bad though. Crazy prices for a 2016 camera. It's such a small camera that people are not afraid of it. I can get access and shoot in places where a DSLR would get me thrown out, and the X70 is silent. Ryan arriving at Kritter camp, 19 July 2016. ( Fuji X70, Flash ON, f/7.1 at 1/950 at Auto ISO 200.) bigger.iPhones work great in daylight and indoors, while this X70 can make long exposures for use at night which the iPhone cannot. Above left: X70 with 35mm digital tele-converter, above right: X70 with 50mm digital tele-converter The menu for the Fujifilm X70 will be instantly recognisable and usable for anyone who has ever used a Fujifilm X Series camera.

The sensor needs to be large enough so that the quality of the photos can be used in exhibitions and books. No problem here with its APS-C sensor and 16 megapixels to work with. Finally, we come to the top of the camera. Here we have the same two dials found on the X100T: the shutter speed dial with a mechanical shutter speed of up to 1/4000 (1/32000 if you turn on the electronic shutter), Bulb, Time and Auto, and the exposure compensation dial with ±3 EV. You’ll also find the shutter button, Drive button, on/off switch, movie record button, Auto mode switch and hot shoe mount. The top plate of the X70 Note: If you are interested in the AF capabilities of the X70, I highly suggest you read our in-depth article about the X-T1’s autofocus capabilities after firmware update 4.0. Everything written there also applies to the X70. The X70 has 49 AF points (shown in Single Point AF mode) To assist you in manual focus mode, there is also the option of pressing the AF-L/AE-L button. It briefly activates autofocus so that you can bring the subject of interest into focus, and then manually perform minor adjustments afterwards. This works well for moving subjects such as animals, insects or plants swaying in the wind. Performance Whether you’re an amateur, professional or completely new to photography, you need to have the right lens for the job. For high-quality lenses at low prices, our pre-owned range is the best place to be. As with our second-hand Fujifilm cameras, we make sure all used Fujifilm XF and GFX lenses are fully inspected and tested and include a 12 month warranty as standard.Ergonomics are swell; I wish every camera had dedicated aperture, shutter and compensation dials as does the X70.
