Aldehydes and bergamot in a brief opening, quickly overtaken by a marriage of oakmoss, carnation, patchouli and vetiver. Second time around I can see what all the fuss is about in terms of the fragrance’s complexity and uniqueness, but I still can’t bear it. Orange blossom adds a sweet, fruity edge - not my favourite element, but blends in nicely with the other florals. It is a bitter, balsamic, menacingly astringent blend of cool, otherworldly woods and sour alien herbs, abstract florals and austere resins. This stunning woman walked into the office where I worked to visit her husband who also worked there.

The modern version has a bit more of a masculine leather quality and the powdery sandalwood-patchouli drydown feels incomplete and lacking in beauty, depth, and charm to me compared to the earlier rosy version.

I’ve just obtained a bottle of this and I now realise this is the slightly overpowering scent I have smelt before on so many classy mature older women. It's still beautiful, don't get me wrong, but it's rather "sharp" now and it doesn't last nearly as long. Aromatics Elixir by Clinique captures the essence of an old-fashioned countryside, exuding an herbal, slightly floral, and aromatic quality with a touch of romance. Communications with the company only gave the standard answer that sometimes adjustments are made for various reasons. I really can't exaggerate just how loud it is - this is NOT safe to wear in the office or in an enclosed space!
